Chef's Special

Turn pretty pie-filling cans into a piece of folk art that doubles as a cooking utensil holder. Bolt three eye-catching blueberry cans to a wooden cutting board with a frame hanger on the back. Display your clever work on the wall near the stove, and you’ll never search for your favorite spatula again. Bon appétit! COMPLETE STORY, HGTV.com

Check this out, it's a great article with wonderful photo's!

Jammie Suits

Are you a jammie suiter? I am. I have discovered the drawstring pant, sweat pant, sweat jacket, pajamas into day wear. Day wear into night wear. Would you like for your clothing to do double duty?

The increased popularity for pajamas that resemble sweat & jogging attire has opened a whole new world for decluttering. I have 5 mix and match outfits that are collectively all of the above. Some are night wear that I also wear as day wear and vice versa.

The softer the fabric the more comfort. Zip up hoodies can work as as a day jacket or a night robe. When paired with a roomy sweat pant or draw string pant and tee shirt they are super comfy and versatile.

Are you a Jammie Suiter? Post comment and submit pics for jammie suiter!

This one found on ebay today, terry cloth, looks super cozy.

New Years Resolutions to Build On

This year I will reach my set point, ideal weight. Yeah for me! I have already went through 3 sizes this past year. I have realized that I need to set a weight that I will be happy with. I have picked two sizes, my ideal and one size larger to base my wardrobe on. I am picking through my wardrobe for the items that still fit and planning a basic wardrobe.

Reprinted from Cafe Minimalist:

When planning your wardrobe consider what is necessary. What are the basics that YOU need. Individualize any wardrobe plan to suit your figure, lifestyle, travel and any other factors that make you unique.

Our basics are just a starting point.
(1) Little black dress. We found these on EBay today.
(2) White button down shirt.
(3) Couple of scoop neck tee shirts in black and white.
(4) Classic dress pant, flat front, wide or boot leg. Can be any color, but black is a good bet.
(5) High quality sweater.
(6) Skirt, pencil or A line in a neutral fabric to mix and match.
(7) Tailored jacket to match your pants.
(8) Handbag that will go with anything.
(9) Classic pump, black.
(10) Sporty classic black leather jacket.

(12) Don't forget the well fitting undergarments.

Remember you are an individual and as such should tailor your wardrobe to meet your unique attributes and needs.

COMING SOON.......Great wardrobe extra's we have discovered and couldn't live without.

Elements of Dress - Step One

When planning your wardrobe you should consider the climate that you live in. Cotton might be more practical in a warm climate, where wool would be more functional in a cold climate. Also you should consider if you want to invest in special care items such as silk, linen or ramie. If you love these fabrics and don't mind the extra care, then go for it!

If you travel a lot, you need to give extra consideration to how well the fabric travels. Fabrics that travel well are polyester, nylon and spandex blends.
Another consideration is whether the items fit properly. Classic lines that do not go out of style are a good choice, but consider your body type. Make sure that outdated items are recycled (donate, donate, donate). Worn items that no longer have a life, trash would be best. If your into recycling, old sweaters make great hats and scarves. (Takes a little sewing knowledge. Check out MissDeeClutter, Recycle articles.)

Take a couple of crates or bins, organize by season to wear. Also a couple for donate, recycle, so on. Keep in your closet if you have room, on the floor. This is a convenient way to keep your closet from getting cluttered by unused items. When full donate, store, trash as determined. Label appropriately for easy access.

Fridge Monster

There's a monster in my refrigerator. It leaves half filled bottles of ketchup, 4 mustard's, 15 salad dressings, 5 kinds of pickles. Not a very healthy diet. Today I tamed the fridge monster.

I have to admit that some of it is mine. I love Chinese and have at least 10 different Asian condiments. I tackled the door shelves only. Starting at the top shelf with the obvious dairy - butter, cheese, eggs. Working my way down.

I removed anything questionable or almost empty to the trash. I cleaned each shelf and thought about how to organize it. My goal is to be able to find items that I already have and not purchase doubles. My plan developed. I visioned the Chinese on one shelf, the salad dressings on another and so on. I speculated on the best height for the shelves to accommodate my plan. I adjusted the shelves accordingly. I cleaned each item as they were placed in there designated areas.

If you find you have a larger than normal category you might want to designate a shelf inside the fridge, rather than the door. Anything that would not fit a category was placed on the anything goes shelf. Tomorrow the guts of the fridge then off to the grocery for items that I actually need.

Plan of Action!

When it comes to organizing a space, no matter how large or small. You need a plan. Define your space. Establish a location to place things. What will this space be used for? Will it have visible and out of sight components? An effective method for organizing is to find a place for everything and then put everything in its place. Establishing a location for specific items allows family members an opportunity to participate.
